He is a two-time Drum Corps International top 8 finisher and won 1st place in consecutive years in the Mallets class at the Kiwanis International Music festival.
Ian is an engaging and contemporary drummer turning heads across North America. His versatile playing is equally at home backing up a jazz trio, a funk and fusion band, or an Afro-Cuban ensemble. When not leading his own quartet, Ian’s playing can be heard in the contemporary quartet Strata, with dancepop artists The Pollution, the fusion group Osmosis and indie rock band The Mass Magicians.
A well-rounded musician, Ian’s compositions and arrangements have also been performed by the much-lauded Jim Knapp Orchestra, and he has recorded and composed music for television commercials. Ian is also an accomplished classical percussionist, and has performed with the Seattle Percussion Collective and the Seattle Modern Orchestra. His career highlights include performing with The Drifters, Latin Grammy-winning pianist Jovino Santos Neto and performing inside the grounds of Buckingham Palace for HRH Prince Andrew. Ian has been fortunate to study with many well-respected teachers and performers, and learned the art of ensemble performance from the legendary Julian Priester. Ian has taught privately for over a decade and previously served on the musical staff of the world famous Calgary Stampede.
